Abstract
OBJECTIVES:Humanintestinalmicrobiotahasanumberofimportantrolesinhumanhealthandisalsoimplicatedinseveralgastrointestinaldisorders.Thegoalofthisstudywastodeterminethegutmicrobiotaintwogroupsofpre-andadolescentchildren:healthyvolunteersandchildrendiagnosedwithdiarrhea-predominantirritablebowelsyndrome(IBS-D).
METHODS:PhylogeneticMicrobiotaArraywasusedtoobtainquantitativemeasurementsofbacterialpresenceandabundanceinsubjects’fecalsamples.Weutilizedhigh-throughputDNAsequencing,quantitativePCR,andfluorescentinsituhybridizationtoconfirmmicroarrayfindings.
